1.    Narendra Modi all set to be PM, BJP to get majority on its own 
i. Narendra Modi appears all set to be the next Prime Minister with BJP likely to get a majority on its own, wresting power from Congress which is on the path of recording its worst ever performance in the Lok Sabha polls.
ii. Recording its best ever performance in its 34-year existence, the BJP on its own was leading in 276 seats, three more than the required half-way mark in the 543-member House, while its allies were ahead in 49 seats.







iii. This will be the first time after 30 years that a single party is securing a majority on its own after the massive number of 419 seats Rajiv Gandhi got in 1984 in the aftermath of Indira Gandhi's assassination. 

iii. Set to take over the Prime Minister next week, Modi tweeted "India has won, good days are coming". The BJP under Atal Bihari Vajpayee had scored an individual tally of 182 seats, both in 1998 and 1999.
ivOn the other hand, the ruling Congress was struggling with leads only in 52 seats while its allies NCP (5), IUML (2), Kerala Congress and RSP (one each) were leading in nine seats.
v. BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi won from Varanasi  and Vadodara.
vi. The process of government formation will kick in with the election commissioners meeting the president of India on 19th evening to present him the results of the 16th general elections.
vii. Outgoing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh congratulated Narendra Modi over BJP's victory in elections. Manmohan Singh will tender resignation tomorrow at 12.30 pm.
Viii. Ten-year tenure of UPA-II will formally end tomorrow. " The BJP parliamentary party will elect him the leader soon after and the swearing in could be expected on 23rd or 24th of May.

2.    Justice JS Khekar recused himself from hearing Sahara Case
i. The Supreme Court judge Justice JS Khehar who was hearing the case of the Sahara Chief Subrata Roy in chit fund scam recused himself from hearing the case further. Now the hearing will be preceded by a newly constituted bench of Supreme Court.
ii. A communication of Justice JS Khehar on 6 May 2014 stating that he rescues from the case of Sahara was placed in front of the Chief Justice of India RM Lodha on 7 May 2014.
iii. Immediately the CJI constituted a new bench on the same matter. This issue was said in a release by Registry office of the apex court on 15 May 2014.

3.    Plastic currency notes to be launched in 2015: Raghuram Ranjan
i. Raghuram Rajan, the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced that plastic currency notes will be launched in 2015 after field trials.
ii. He said it after the Central Board of Directors of the RBI Meet in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.

Note: Earlier in February 2013, Union Government had informed Parliament that it will introduce one billion plastic currency notes in five cities in later half of 2014 on a pilot basis. The five selected cities for pilot testing are Shimla, Kochi, Mysore, Jaipur, and Bhubaneswar.
